Aftermath and Effect of 9/11 attacks

On September 12 there was an attack on the United States of America during the attack 4 planes were hijacked. The first two planes were diverted to the World Trade Center complex in New York City they were then crashed into the twin towers. The third plane was crashed in the pentagon. The fourth plane was diverted to washington but crashed into a field near Pennsylvania.

Effect

• Hundred of thousands of tons of toxic debris were spread because of the collapse of the twin towers. The people at level zero have fatal or debilitating illnesses because of the spread of toxins. The EPA did not agree air quality levels had returned to normal till June 2002. About 18,000 people have been estimated to have devoloped illnesses as a result of the toxic dust. A study of rescue workers released in April 2010 found that all those studies had impaired lung functions, and that 30-40% were reporting little or no improvement in persistent symptoms.
• The stock exchange was closed on September 11 and remained closed till September 17. On reopening Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 684 points, by the end of the week it fell 1,369.7 points. U.S stocks lost 1.4 trillion in value for the week.
